Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership supports the Port of Houston's Partners in Maritime Education "Computers for College 2013" campaign that will provide eligible graduating seniors with a laptop. Texas has become the envy of every state in the nation as its low unemployment rates and business friendly environment attract more businesses, more jobs, and highly qualified people to fill those jobs. The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is the state agency charged with overseeing and providing workforce development services to employers and job seekers of Texas. It does so in the Houston-Galveston region in partnership with the Gulf Coast Workforce Board-Workforce Solutions, neither of which gets the credit it deserves.
Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership, BAHEP, and Bay Area Houston Advanced Technology Consortium, BayTech, have been coordinating with Alan B. Lumsden, M.D., medical director of the Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center at the Methodist Hospital, and NASA Johnson Space Center to include Houston’s aerospace sector in an established, collaborative effort between two of Houston’s other leading industry sectors – medicine and oil and gas.
Since 2007, Pumps & Pipes conferences have brought together professionals from medicine and oil and gas to explore crossover ideas and technologies that could benefit both industries. For the first time, representatives from Houston’s aerospace sector have been invited to join in this work and to participate in this year’s innovative conference, Pumps and Pipes 6: Opportunity Now, which will take place on Dec. 3, 2012, at the Methodist Hospital Research Institute.
Mike Coats, director, NASA JSC, will give a brief talk titled, “Houston, we have an opportunity.” Robert Ambrose, Ph.D., chief, Software, Robotics & Simulation Division, NASA Johnson Space Center, is among the keynote speakers and will deliver the speech, “Space Cowboys: Roping an Asteroid.” The conference will also feature NASA’s electric lunar rover and Robonaut.
Those who wish to attend the event can register online. The conference can also be seen through a live webcast via any internet connected computer, iPad or iPod. Registration for both, plus additional information, is available at www.pumpsandpipes.com.
