  • The Houston Metropolitan Statistical Area (HMSA) covers more than 10,000 square miles and consists of 10 counties: Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, San Jacinto and Waller.
  • The HMSA ranked fifth among U.S. metropolitan statistical areas with a population of 7,122,240 ( Jan. 2022).
  • The HMSA’s real estate markets – both commercial and residential – finished exceptionally strong.
  • The inventory of homes for sale is at a 12-year low and local home builders report a shortage of lots to build on.

The region served by BAHEP is comprised of 18 communities in Harris and Galveston counties, adjacent to Galveston Bay, Texas. As with all of Texas, the regional demographics are changing rapidly, both in terms of increased numbers and diversification. Overall, the regional profile showcases a population that is increasingly well educated, occupationally diverse, above-state-average in income and below-state-average in unemployment.
